Disbarred Personal Injury Attorney Defending Himself

A disbarred personal injury attorney has taken over his defense in in the sentencing phase of his trial after being convicted of grand theft in a Fresno County Superior Court in connection with cases he handled for clients.

Gregory Morris was given permission to take over the handling of his own case in the middle of the proceedings by Judge Mark Snauffer just as the questioning of his psychiatrist was to begin.

The judge told the jury, the second to consider Morris’ insanity defense, that this is the first time in his 33 yeas of practicing law that he had heard such a request in the middle of a trial.

Morris says that he was insane at the time the crimes were committed.  The first jury to hear the case found him guilty of the theft charges but deadlocked on the insanity defense.
