Have You Had an Unnecessary Heart ProcedureHave you had an unnecessary heart procedure? On top of this, did the heart procedure make things worse or injure you?
If this is the case, you may be able to receive compensation for your injury. The wise thing to do is to talk to a personal injury attorney and have your case evaluated at no cost or obligation to you.
Your doctor told you that you needed to have a heart procedure. You trusted your doctor. You had the heart procedure.
Did not need
However, you have now discovered that you did not need the heart procedure. It was not necessary, and to make matters worse; you have been injured as a result of the heart procedure.
Any kind of surgery is serious. Any type of heart procedure is especially serious and potentially dangerous.
A medical procedure is defined as being a course of action that is intended to achieve a result in the care of persons with health problems. When a medical procedure is intended to determine, measure or diagnose a persons condition or parameter, it is referred to as a medical test.
A heart procedure is any course of medical action that involves or has to do with your heart. In like manner, a heart test is a procedure that is intended to determine, measure or diagnose the condition of your heart.
There are several different types of heart procedures. These include:
Open heart surgery - This is any surgery in which your chest is opened and surgery is done on your heart muscle, valves, arteries or other parts of your heart.
Closed heart surgery - This is surgery where you will not usually be placed on a heart-lung bypass machine, and your heart will not need to be opened up.
Heart bypass surgery - This is surgery that replaces damaged arteries in your heart.
Heart catheterization - This is a procedure that is used to examine how well your heart is working.
Heart valve replacement surgery - This is surgery in which a valve of your heart is replaced.
Balloon angioplasty and stent procedure - This is a procedure in which a stent is placed inside of one of your heart arteries to act as a support or scaffold that keeps your vessel open.
The tragedy is that many heart procedures are unnecessary. In fact, coronary artery bypass surgery is said to be the most common unnecessary surgery in the United States.
Burton Goldberg in his book, Heart Disease, says that the majority of coronary artery bypass surgeries and angioplasties bring about no real benefit to the patient, and dangerous side effects, such as stroke or brain damage may result when the surgery is not needed.
Goldberg wrote, Complications from such treatments are common and the expense to the health care system is extraordinarily high. In 1994, an estimated 501,000 bypass surgeries at $44,000 each were performed on Americans, 47 percent of which were done on men.
Once again, if you have been injured by an unnecessary heart procedure, you may be entitled to compensation. The wise thing to do is to contact a personal injury attorney and have your case evaluated at no cost or obligation to you.
