Motorcyclist pulled to safety after fiery rescue

Construction workers, students and bystanders pulled Brandon Wright, 21, from underneath a burning car Monday, and the uncle of the motorcyclist is calling the group of helpful bystanders "heroes to our family."

"I thank you on behalf of my family, and I know that my nephew Brandon will hope to thank you at some point, too. I know that you might be shy and want to dislodge the title, but you are heroes to our family," Riggs said.

CNN reports that the Brandon is in good spirits, "He was talking to us earlier and going through physical therapy and felt good after that. Things could have been much worse," Riggs said.

The accident occurred when another car pulled out in front of Brandon as he left a parking lot. Brandon tried to avoid the driver, but he crashed. Gas spilled from the motorcycle and caught fire, lodging Brandon underneath the burning car as flames covered the front-end of the car and the motorcycle.

Several of bystanders responded, lifting the 4,000 pound car. Others helped to pull Wright from under the car. Later, Wright was taken to the hospital and is reported in stable condition following surgery Monday. The driver of the car did not suffer severe injuries.

According to bystanders, the man in the car appeared to be in shock. Charges related to the car accident are pending until law enforcement completes their investigation.

Although what happened is frightening, many have commented at the willingness of so many people to put their lives in danger to rescue Wright. One spectator added, "It speaks volumes to what people will do in a tragic situation to help another person out."

Common Motorcycle Injuries

Unlike a car accident which only results in injury or death 20% of the time, according the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA), up to 80% of motorcycle drivers can expect to get injured or killed if they are involved in a motorcycle accident.
Motorcyclists, who are not killed, can expect to suffer common motorcycle injuries such as:

• Traumatic brain injury
• Spinal cord injury
• Paralysis
• Disfigurement
• Death
• Skin abrasions
• Bruises
• Bone fractures
• Lacerations

Did you know if you have been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident or if someone you love has been injured from the negligence of another driver, you may be entitled to compensation for high medical costs, wage loss and pain and suffering.

Hiring a Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

Due to the high cost of many motorcycle injuries, it is very important to contact a motorcycle lawyer, especially if you are involved a serious accident and have not been able to negotiate a fair settlement with the insurance companies.

Whether you need extensive medical care, lost wage compensation or payment for pain and suffering, a motorcycle attorney can offer a free comprehensive review of your motorcycle accident and can let you know if you have a personal injury case. Many motorcycle lawyers can also help negotiate a fair personal injury settlement with your insurance company or the insurance company of another driver.

Do not settle a motorcycle injury claim without fully understanding your legal rights. Unlike many car accidents, which have minor injuries or loss, motorcycle accidents frequently leave their victims devastated by their motorcycle injuries.
