Definition of Benefits
Benefits can refer to a broad range of compensation given by the Social Security Administration (SSA) including Retirement, Disability and Survivors benefits as well as Medicare.
Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) is paid based on the workers? average earnings and their payroll tax contribution to Social Security. The more they have paid into the Social Security system, the more in monthly benefits they are entitled to receive. The SSA sends workers a Statement of Earnings each year which provides claimants with an estimated payment amount. Claimants can also contact the SSA at 1-800-772-1213 for specific information regarding the benefits they are entitled to receive when they reach retirement or if they are disabled with a severe condition and cannot work for at least 12 continuous months.
Medical benefits offered to disabled and retired recipients include Medicare and Medicaid. All benefits provided by the Social Security Administration have strict requirements to qualify. If claimants are denied benefits they can generally appeal their denial within 60 days from the date of the SSA denail letter.
